Weekend Events for the Whole Family in Berlin, July 29th - 31st

Zug der Liebe

Just a week gone since the CSD and another demonstration/parade/party is coming. The "Zug der Liebe" is the newer version of the Love Parade. The organisers are the clubs, many with political messages for more tolerance. 

Saturday, July 30th, 12:30 in Karl Marx Allee between Strausberger Platz and Alexanderplatz, the parade walks towards Ostbahnhof and further down the Muehlenstr. Afterparty in the Magdalena




Furthermore

  • Berlin Lacht, a street theatre festival, until August 8th, in Alexanderplatz

  • Goths from all over Germany will meet in Berlin in the "Berliner Gothic Treffen". The weekend will feature concerts and other events, including a photo-op at the Brandenburg Gate (Friday, 6pm) and a picnic in Lustgarten (Sat, 2 - 4 pm) 

  • Friday at 7pm: evening tour in the Tierpark.
  • Saturday afternoon and night in Potsdam: The "Potsdamer Erlebnisnacht", a street party all over the old city, including many events for kids

  • Saturday at 2pm: wild animals in the Tiergarten - a guided tour for families with kids over 5 (details
  • Sunday at 1 pm: workshop for families with schoolkids from the first grade on, in the Maya Exhibition at Martin Gropius Bau. 
  • Switzerland is celebrating its National Day on August 1st, in Malzfabrik the celebrations begin on Sunday, with a Swiss festival, which includes music, food, crafts and more - from 12:00 , free admission (details). 

Food Events

  • "United Street Food" is a festival designed to bring together refugees/asylum seekers and locals in Berlin. All of the benefits will go to charity projects to help asylum seekers and refugees. Markthalle IX, Sunday, 11:00 - 18:00 

  • And as usual, a street-food market in the Kulturbrauerei, Sunday

Weekend Events for the Whole Family in Berlin, July 22nd - 24th

Christopher Street Day

Christopher Street Day, the Berlin Pride Parade, usually takes place in June. This year, it was moved to July because of the Football Championship in France. The parade will start at noon from the KuDamm and will continue to the Victory Culumn. 



Street Parties, Food Festivals etc. 

  • Berlin Lacht, a street theatre festival, until August 8th, in Alexanderplatz





  • Ending this weekend: the "German French Funfair" (Deutsch-Französisches Volksfest), in the Zentraler Festplatz in Kurt-Schumacher-Damm. Free entry for children under 14 and on Wednesdays, the rides are for half price for families. Every day in the afternoon, until July 24th 




    •  Sat/Sun - Highland Games in the Gardens of the World (admission fees apply) 




    • Also the Neonchocolate Arts Festival in Postbahnhof, with many cool concerts and shows

    Weekend for the Whole Family in Berlin, July 15th - 17th

    Duckstein Festival 

    Continues until Sunday the 18th, a music and street performance festival, near the Charlottenburg Palace. Free admission, Programme 




    Gay Fair in Schöneberg

    The gay fair of Schoeneberg, which usually takes place in June, had to be postponed to July, because of the football championship. It is called 24. Lesbisch-schwules Stadtfest (which means the 24th  Lesbo-Gay District Fair), but it is of course dedicated to the rights of all gays and open to all, including straight supporters/allies, with many stands.

    Bastille Day

    Unfortunately, I am not so sure that anyone is in party mood after I have already published this blog, but there are supposed to be at least two central events to commemorate the Bastille Day in Berlin. 

    • The major one is a party in Brandenburg Gate on Saturday / Sunday including a free Air concert on Saturday at 8 pm 
    • In addition, every day: the "German French Funfair" (Deutsch-Französisches Volksfest), in the Zentraler Festplatz in Kurt-Schumacher-Damm. Free entry for children under 14 and on Wednesdays, the rides are for half price for families. Every day in the afternoon, until July 24th 




    Furthermore

    • All weekend long: The Tegel harbour will celebrate, in the Greenwichpromende
    • The Blumenfest (Flower Festival) is Weissensee is not a flower festival, but quite a regular street party, on Berliner Allee and in the Weissensee Park, between Antonplatz and Indira Gandhi. Friday through Sunday. 
    • Sat/Sun: A party at the Historical Harbour (Historischer Hafen) on both days, with children activities, and on Saturday also in the nearby Maerkisches Museum 

    • Sat/Sun: Historical costumes in Fort Hahneberg (details)
    • Sat/Sun in the KPM (Royal Porcelain Manufacturer): an open day for the whole family (S Tiergarten) 
    • Sunday at 1 pm: workshop for families with schoolkids from the first grade on, in the Maya Exhibition at Martin Gropius Bau. 
    • Sunday from 11:30 - A party at the Gutshof Britz ( Alt-Britz 73, 12359 Berlin ) with lots of children activities, free admission 
    • Sunday: Rakatak, a drummer festival in Pankow (admission fees apply, details)
    • Streetfood market in the Kulturbrauerei, Sunday 
    • And more food on Sunday: the Breakfast Market, in Markthalle IX, this time with a focus on Mexico

    Weekend for the whole family : Berlin between July 8th and 10th, 2016

    • Friday from 7pm: An evening tour in the Berlin Zoo 
    • Saturday, the designer market in Karnoldplatz (Neukoelln)

    Meanwhile in Potsdam

    The "Stadtwerkfest" is a local town festival, with lots of activities, concerts and all for free. The festival takes place in the Neuen Lustgarten , 600 m from the Potsdam Hauptbahnhof, and will feature (among other things) free concerts by Santana and Cyndi Lauper (Sat, 10pm and 8 pm respectively) and a big children area. Free admission
