Weekend Events for the Whole Family in Berlin, August 31st - September 2nd

The IFA and Open-Shops-Sunday

The IFA is an annual electronics fair that presents the new innovations in consumer electronics, including the newest (smart) phones, watches, homes and other things that start with smart- and don't end with -ies. The fair is open to the general public and also has many attractions for the whole family, including a whole section for youth and teens

IFA, in the Messe, August 31st until September 5th, admission fees apply 


And for this occasion, there is also an open-shops-Sunday, with large stores and centres open between 1 and 6 pm. 


Funfairs and Street Parties 


  • Every day until September 16th , Berlin Lacht!, a street theatre festival in Hauptbahnhof


  • Altstadtfest in the Spandau Old City, Fri through Sun 
  • Water street party in Zillepromenade in Rummelsburg on Saturday, with lots of water...



  • Another street party on Saturday: in Dunckerstr in Prenzlauer Berg, from 2 pm ; and also in Rathaus Tiergarten ( Mathilde-Jacob-Platz 1, 10551 Berlin ) 
  • A summer party and open doors in the Tempelhofer Airport , on Saturday 


  • And if you're airport lovers, you're gonna have one great-weekend!, The former airport in Gatow, now an aviation museum, is also running its annual party on Saturday and Sunday 
  • Sunday: Party in the Tierpark, discounts for HOWOGE residents, but everybody's invited
  • Medieval Festival in Domäne Dahlem, Sat + Sun

  • Food and Markets: 
    • The Berlin Coffee Festival in Markthalle IX, Fri-Sat-Sun


    • Flowmarkt in Maybachufer on Sunday 
    • Flea markets and a street food market in the Kulturbrauerei

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is coming up (Sept 8-9th), and a few places offer activities or meals:

Weekend Events for the Whole Family in Berlin, August 24th - 26th

The Long Night of the Museums...

Museums are at the focus this weekend. Saturday evening will host the annual Long Night of the Museum, an event in which many of the museums in the city open in the evening and until late, with many events, shows, guided tours and activities. 

There are also many events for kids, you have to search through the programme to find out

    • Street food market in the Kulturforum on Friday and Saturday 
    • Flea market in the Zitadelle Spandau on Saturday night 
    • Every Saturday: workshops for children (from 2:30 onwards) at the Museum of Technology
    • Guided tour for families at the Natural History Museum, Sun from 11:00 
    • Guided tour for children (DE) about the Berlin Wall, in the Wall Memorial on Sunday


Funfairs and Street Parties 


  • The best street party of the week is the Nikolai Festspiele in Nikolai Quarter on Sat / Sun . It features many people in historical (in fact pseudo historical: steampunk)  costumes, stands, music and much hilarity.

  • The Fest der Liebe is a smaller version of the Love Parade, for the techno fan in you. Starting on Saturday from Treptower Park, at 1 pm and going through Kreuzebrg, Friedrichshain and Lichtenberg
  • A street party in Katzengraben in Köpenick, on Saturday 
  • Also on Saturday, in Rüdesheimer Platz 
  • A street fair in the Kladow harbour, on Sunday 
  • Summer in the City - a small fair in Breitscheidplatz, every day until September 9th 

Summer in the City (DNA)
  • Berlin Lacht continues, in Hauptbahnhof, until September 15th, daily 
  • Also daily till September 9th: the Schollenfest, a small and cute traditional funfair in Waidmannslust, a neighbourhood in Tegel , including a pageant on Sunday

  • Sport: 
    • The Inklusionslauf is dedicated to inclusion of all members of society , a fun-run in Tempelhofer Feld for really everybody - no matter how able-bodied they are. Saturday, from 10:00

    • Every Saturday , 12:00, the "Mighty Wurlitzer" in the Musical Instruments Museum

  • Food and Markets: 
    • Friday through Sunday is the annual Vegan Food Festival in Alexanderplatz, which does a pretty awesome job in trying to convince us to live without animal-sourced products 

    • Italian Festival in Urban Spree on Saturday
    • Vinyl records  market in the Yaam on Sunday
    • Designer market in the Prinzessinnengaerten on Sunday 
    • Taste of Latin America - StreetFood Festival in Birgit & Bier on Sunday 
    • And Sunday afternoon will also see the great Hummus Festival in Sage Beach 
    • Flea markets and a street food market in the Kulturbrauerei

Weekend Events for the Whole Family in Berlin, August 17th - 19th

Funfairs and Street Parties 


  • The FEZ is turning into "Circus on the Beach" for the rest of this summer's weekends: with circus activities, beach activities and lots of fun (admission fees apply) 





  • Another festival that will take place daily until August 19th is the German-American-Funfair (Deutsch-Amerikanisches Volksfest). The location is a bit off the city centre, to say the least: in Marienpark, which is about 15 minutes walk from either S Attilastr or U Alt Mariendorf. There is an admission fee, but it is in fact converted into chips for rides.

  • Saturday: usually one of the best street parties of the year - the one organised by the Berlin Water Services (Wasserbetriebe) in Juendenstr in Mitte (near U Klosterstr) 

  • Street party which is also a demonstration for tolerance and democracy, in Spanday, on Saturday, to oppose the annual "Rudolf Hess March" 



  • Also on Saturday: street party in Leonhardtstraße in Charlottenburg (near S Charlottenburg) 




  • Meanwhile, on the other side of town, there is a street party in Florastr in Pankow on Saturday 


  • Saturday/Sunday: Baroque Festival in the Friedrichsfelde Caslte in the middle of Tieroark, and a good excuse to visit the Tierpark 



  • Sat/Sun: a free music festival in the East Side Gallery 
  • Sat / Sun : street party in Rudolfplatz in Friedrichshain 
  • No children party like the Green Party, or so goes the slogan, on Sunday, in Volkspark Friedrichshain

Weekend Events for the Whole Family in Berlin, August 10th - 12th

Funfairs and Street Parties

  • Alexanderplatz hosts, every day, the street theatre festival Berlin Lacht! - Acrobatics, clowns and more - for free , daily until August 12th 
  • Another festival that will take place daily until August 19th is the German-American-Funfair (Deutsch-Amerikanisches Volksfest). The location is a bit off the city centre, to say the least: in Marienpark, which is about 15 minutes walk from either S Attilastr or U Alt Mariendorf. There is an admission fee, but it is in fact converted into chips for rides.

Weekend Events for the Whole Family in Berlin, August 3rd - 5th

Funfairs and Street Parties 

  • Obviously, the main festival of the weekend is the Beer Festival Berlin, which streches on a huge area - between the Strausberger Platz and Frankfurter Tor stations in Friedrichshain on Fri / Sat / Sun. The festival is for free, with musical and food entertainment, but be aware - very crowded. 


  • There is a Children Bat Festival in the Spandau Citadel on Saturday; another good reason to go there is the Bavarian Festival in the Old City of Spandau



  • The support group festival on Saturday in the Tempelhofer Feld is dedicated to groups and organisations offering ideas for support for people challenged by difficulties. It will include a stage-programme with entertainment, a fun-run, and much more (details)
