Events at the weekend : 8-10 October

The Children Culture Month 

To be truthful, this special series of events has started already last week, but I did not have time to report about it, and I decided that it is important enough for the current week. The "Children Culture Month" features cultural institutions throughout Berlin offering a variety of special activities for children, most of them free or at a very nominal price.

KinderKulturMonat - this weekend and also a little during the autumn holidays

Everyone is welcome to the living room (and more events) 

The event Tag des guten Lebens Neukölln will take place on Saturday in  the neighbourhood. Residents are invited to turn the Thomashöhe Park into a neighbourhood living room, with games, activities and opportunities to discuss environmental and social change in the area. There will be music, do-it-yourself workshops, cooking, games, and guided tours.

More street parties and outdoor events 

• Mitte: on Saturday and Sunday, there is a food festival in the courtyard of Clärchens Ballhaus ( details )

• Kreuzberg / Schöneberg: The "green market" on Saturday / Sunday in Jules in Gleisdreieck Park includes various products - from food to decorative products - which can be called "green". And alongside them, music 

• On Sunday you can also visit the Flowmarkt on Sunday, under the Yorckstr bridges on Großgörschenstraße 

• Moabit: Art and Design Market at Arminiusmarkt on Saturday ( details )

• Wedding: "Autumn party" in the Himmelbeet community garden on Saturday, starting at 12:00, at Ruheplatzstraße 12, 13347 Berlin (station: Leopoldplatz of U9 and U6). 

• And more in Wedding: Bagels, New York and jokes - not Seinfeld but a stand-up evening with a New York flavour (but also a little Jewish and a lot of Berlin) at the Z Bar in Gazundbrunnen on Sunday, starting at 7:30 PM ( details )

• Pankow: Autumn festival also at the Pinke Panke children's farm on Sunday. There will be animals, there will be creative activities and also music ( details )

• Schöneweide: The Subaer Flohmarkt in Revier Südost (Schnellerstraße 137 12439 Berlin, Schöneweide station), on Saturday. 

• Residents of Hellersdorf will celebrate the autumn at Alice-Salomon-Platz, right next to the Hellersdorf station of the U5. The "Harvest Festival" will take place in all three days of the weekend and with rides, stalls and an entertainment stage 

• Potsdam: Autumn Festival at Volkspark Potsdam on Sunday including pumpkins and more ( details )

And now, as Monty Python say, to something completely different, not autumn but 

• "Hangeul Day" is the Korean alphabet day and a national holiday in South Korea. The South Korean embassy is organizing a small festival with Korean music (and hopefully also delicacies) on Saturday at the Gendarmenmarkt, for full details

Kids nowadays are hacking...

... And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Jugend Hackt is organizing the Hackathon this weekend, which is also intended for those who already have experience in hacking or programming, and for those who are there for the first time.

And considering that the registration for the hackathon has actually ended (so you may not be able to register), you can meanwhile program robots in Haba as part of the workshop " LEGO®SPIKE ™ Prime: Discover the World of Robots " which takes place on Saturday. 

Small programming enthusiasts will also be able to experience the Scratch workshop, during the fall break, online ( details )

Autumn Holidays

From October 11 to 22, public school children enjoy two weeks of fall holiday. The city is full of a selection of offers for "camps" in case the "Hort" is not to the taste of the children. Short selection: 

• Autumn vacation for computer and programming enthusiasts - at the Futorium 

• Game lovers will be able to come to the America-Gedenkbibliothek Library for a Games Workshop Together on Thursday ( details )

• The Staatsoper offers a workshop where you can experience life on stage - Tuesday through Thursday 

• Also at Grunwald Palace you can do a theater workshop on vacation 

• And if you are actually in the segment of creation, the Ferienparcours of the "Culture Month" can cover some areas of creation and art; Or of course enroll in one of the art schools of all in the circus, for example here in Schonberg-Templehof

Goddess 2019 - two years

The attack in the city of the goddess (aimed at the city's synagogue at the height of the Yom Kippur prayer) took place exactly two years ago - on October 9, 2019. Number of events in memory of the event: 

• A memorial assembly at Oranienplatz in Kreuzberg, Saturday at 7:00 PM ( details )

• The next day, Sunday, 
• Memorial service at the Admiralbrücke at 14:00 ( details )

• In the evening: a symposium on "Goddess Everywhere" at the Jewish Community House on Fasanenstr in Charlottenburg ( details )

• And another demonstration on Saturday: On Saturday, at 12:00, the nursing staff at the Vivantes hospitals, and anyone who wants to express solidarity, will demonstrate at Herrmannplatz. They are not even asking for a higher salary or anything like that, just to increase the standards and add manpower.
