Until I'll get better information from those who are interested, I am posting one week in English, one week in German. I personally have no preference, but have to know which one my readers would feel more comfortable with (or is more necessary as there is an abundance of sources in both languages).
In any case, this one of the busiest weekends, event-wise. So let's start with...
German Unification Day
On October 3, 1990, the Parliaments of East and West Germany voted for the unification of the two countries. This holiday, which has been celebrated ever since, is the closest thing to a "national day" that Germans have, but it is actually usually celebrated in a rather minor way, at least when the city where you live is not the "main host" (this year Halle is the host).
One of the things that happens on this day and is suitable for parents from all over Germany is "Mouse Open Doors Day". The mouse from the popular German show "Die Sendung mit der Maus" invites you to discover "behind the scenes" of different places - as they do on the show every week. In Berlin, for example, you can visit interesting memorial sites with activities for children, or visit a research institute that deals with "future research". Registration details (places are caught fast!)
The long night of the families and the long day of the museums
In Berlin there are dozens, if not hundreds, of places that offer different activities for the whole family. The "Long Night" on Saturday (October 2) offers activities in these places, including guided tours of interesting places, creative activities, music, bonfires, experiments and much more.
The long night of families - all over the city, Saturday
And if that's not enough, then on the morning after the “long night,” that is, on Sunday, many museums around the city will be open for free and will offer activities including workshops for children and adults, guided tours and other special events.
