Weekend Events for the Whole Family in Berlin, August 17th - 19th

Funfairs and Street Parties 


  • The FEZ is turning into "Circus on the Beach" for the rest of this summer's weekends: with circus activities, beach activities and lots of fun (admission fees apply) 





  • Another festival that will take place daily until August 19th is the German-American-Funfair (Deutsch-Amerikanisches Volksfest). The location is a bit off the city centre, to say the least: in Marienpark, which is about 15 minutes walk from either S Attilastr or U Alt Mariendorf. There is an admission fee, but it is in fact converted into chips for rides.

  • Saturday: usually one of the best street parties of the year - the one organised by the Berlin Water Services (Wasserbetriebe) in Juendenstr in Mitte (near U Klosterstr) 

  • Street party which is also a demonstration for tolerance and democracy, in Spanday, on Saturday, to oppose the annual "Rudolf Hess March" 



  • Also on Saturday: street party in Leonhardtstraße in Charlottenburg (near S Charlottenburg) 




  • Meanwhile, on the other side of town, there is a street party in Florastr in Pankow on Saturday 


  • Saturday/Sunday: Baroque Festival in the Friedrichsfelde Caslte in the middle of Tieroark, and a good excuse to visit the Tierpark 



  • Sat/Sun: a free music festival in the East Side Gallery 
  • Sat / Sun : street party in Rudolfplatz in Friedrichshain 
  • No children party like the Green Party, or so goes the slogan, on Sunday, in Volkspark Friedrichshain

  • Museums and Casltes
    • Friday/Saturday: The Potsdam Castle Night, with many shows and activities in the different castles 

    • Every Saturday: workshops for children (from 2:30 onwards) at the Museum of Technology
    • My travellog (Mein Wanderbuch, feel free to suggest a better translation), workshop for children around the (highly recommended) Wanderung exhibition in the Alte Nationalgalerie 
    • How was life in year 1200? Come to the Düppel Museum to find out, in a family fest on Saturday and Sunday

  • Irish in Berlin? Irish culture festival on Friday and Saturday, in the Ufa Fabrik in Tempelhof

  • The German "championship" in flower arrangement, Fri + Sat, Potsdamer Platz Arkaden 

  • School is almost on: 
    • Fri / Sat : design your own breadbox in the Neukoelln Arkaden
    • Party for children going to the 1st grade in the Oranienburg Castle Gardens, Sunday

  • Sport: Sports festival for children around the Olympic Stadium on Sunday


  • Music: 
    • Every Saturday , 12:00, the "Mighty Wurlitzer" in the Musical Instruments Museum

  • Food and Markets: 
    • ART…ESSENZ : arts market in the Sony Centre, Fri through Sun 
    • Food and specialities from Brandenburg in Domaene Dahlem on Sat and Sun 
    • Wine festival in the Schlossinsel in Koepenick, Sat + Sun 
    • Asian food festival in Birgit und Beer on Sunday
    • Flea markets and a street food market in the Kulturbrauerei 
    • Breakfast Market in Markthalle IX, on Sunday 







Jewish Traditions


  • Fraenkelufer are organising an excursion to Domaene Dahlem on Sunday (info)




Later in the week...


The European Paralympic Athletics Championships will commence on Monday in Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Stadium. Your chance of seeing greater-than-life athletes overcoming their difficulties.
